Castles and fortresses
In the surroundings of the Loosdrechtse Plassen you will find many castles, fortresses and mansions that are worth seeing. Close to the lakes you will find Sypesteyn Castle and Nyenrode Business University. It's not a castle, but Fort Nieuwersluis you'll also come across when you cycle a small round along the lakes.
A little further away you will find Kasteel de Haar, Slot Zuylen, Kasteel Groeneveld, Kasteel De Hooge Vuursche and not to forget Kasteel Drakensteyn and Paleis Soestdijk where the royal family has lived.
Zuylen Castle
Slot Zuylen is located a little south of the Loosdrecht lakes, along the Vecht river. This living museum with castle garden is well worth a visit and offers a varied program full of interesting exhibitions and performances.
